Postwar Hong Kong cinema played an active role in building the colony’s community in the 1950s and 1960s. To Jing Jing Chang, the screening of movies in postwar Hong Kong was a process of showing the filmmakers’ visions for Hong Kong society and simultaneously an attempt to conceal their anxieties and mask their political agenda. It was a time when the city was a site of intense ideological struggles among the colonial government, Chinese Nationalists, and Communist sympathizers. The medium of film was recognized as a powerful tool for public persuasion and various camps competed to win over the hearts and minds of the audience. Screening Communities thus situates the history of postwar Hong Kong cinema at the intersection of Cold War politics, Chinese culture, and local society. Focusing on the genres of official documentary film, leftist family melodrama (lunlipian), and youth film, this study examines the triangulated relationship of colonial interventions in Hong Kong film culture, the rise of left-leaning Cantonese directors as new cultural elites, and the positioning of audiences as contributors to the colony’s journey toward industrial modernity. Filmmakers are shown having to constantly negotiate changing sociopolitical conditions the Hong Kong government presenting itself as a collaborative ruling body, moral and didactic messages being adapted for commercial releases, and women becoming recognized as a driving force behind Hong Kong’s postwar industrial success. In putting forward a historical narrative that privileges the poetics and politics of shaping a local community through a continuous screening process, Screening Communities offers a new interpretation of the development of Hong Kong cinema―one that breaks away from the usual accounts of the “rise and fall” of the industry.

I am more patient, more loving, and happier than I have ever been. Sure things still come up that would shake a person to the core of their being. However, they no longer shake me for long. With the techniques in this book it takes only a matter of minutes to engage one of them to pull yourself out of despair, heartache, grief, pain, anger, depression, and much more. Through practice these simple techniques can and will change your life. Everything Dr. Sue does is pure GOLD and medicine for the soul.
• I truly wanted to believe in this book, I really did, but after reading it I’m afraid I don’t. Even though she had a few gems of insight, (like the “bus stop” and possible quantum connections among others) there were just so many experiences that were unfortunately too unbelievable to be true. Literal miracles on every few pages and how the codes would transform your life similarly. Ironically, there’s also a rather large medical disclaimer at the beginning of the book, which left me with an uneasy feeling before I even got started.
  
  Most of it is full of meditation and chakra exercises and how there’s an entire system of energy that needs to be balanced. The problem is when I read so many of these miraculous stories, I started feeling like I was being lied to and began to no longer trust the process. The exercises I attempted were done seriously at first, then half heartedly and then I fully dropped them midway through. And there are so many of these balancing exercises, I just found it hard to believe that we humans need all this extensive, fine tuning in order to be connected. It’s unusual considering animals and plants are all part of this same energy, but somehow they’re able to be in flow with life and yet humans need this extensive conditioning to do so. Maybe if the book didn’t feel so weighty and grandiose, it may have left me with a different impression. I don’t know.
  
  Energy work, meditation and chakras are not really a new topic, but I thought this one was going to be be different because Dr Morter is truly an excellent speaker and wet’s your appetite even though she never really divulges the process in her videos. Since this was her first book on the process, you can’t help but be excited at the possible content. Even though her perceptions on the world and life were extremely insightful, I feel like this book just didn’t deliver for me. Maybe I’ll try looking at it again in the future, but this is my honest perception of it right now.

  I’d also like to caution buyers to beware of some of the reviews here. This book was released on March 19th and some of them have reviews even before it was even possible to get the book. Even Dr Morter herself stated that it takes at least a few weeks minimum to put these exercises into practice. For these reviewers to give it such high praise with no time frame to put her teachings into practice, is something you should be cautious of.
• I love this book! It’s a slow read because I don’t want to miss a thing. Hard to put down. I have done energy work for years and this will when I teach I recommend further reading-this just moved to the top of the list. So smart, so clear and feels right on the mark!
• I’ve been interested in energy work for a long time but this book really blew me away. It was just what I needed and explained things in a way that I could understand. Actually kind of exciting.

"I have literally purchased at least 10 copies over the years, either for friends, or because once again, I gave my copy away. There are so many books about Lucid Dreaming now, and I've read many of them; and this is the only one you need to start Lucid Dreaming.

When I first bought this, it was in 2010. I started reading it on Dec. 4th and had my first Lucid Dream on Dec. 30th. It took 26 days of using the book workbook-style, going through a chapter or so a night, and following the instructions. Started a dream journal the first night. At the beginning I never remembered my dreams at all. And just 26 days later I had my first LD. During the following month, continuing to finish the book during this time, I had 30 total Lucid Dreams, sometimes 3-4 in a single night.

I haven't focused on my dreaming for quite a while, but there have been a few times during the years when I wanted a refresher, and I always go back to THIS book. I have actually read the updated versions from LaBerge, and they are simply not as good and concise and as easy to follow as the original. Plus for $8 brand new, you can't go wrong."

• I started reading the book in mid January and had my first Lucid Dream after 2 weeks. For other novices like me, I highly recommend this book! The first few chapters give a detailed step by step, how to proceed in order to learn how to have lucid dreams. For those who are interested, but have not yet started, I should state that this is not something you can simply read the book and start having lucid dreams. It takes a lot of work, and you have to consistently do the exercises and not get discouraged if you don't succeed right away. I was initially disappointed that I did not have a lucid dream after a week of working on it. But, I continued to do the exercises and finally, after 2 weeks I succeeded in becoming aware that I was dreaming! Success! Very exciting! Without the book, I would have had no idea of what to do or how to proceed. I can't promise that it will work for everyone, but it did work for me.
• I've had lucid dreams occasionally ever since I was five. Read his first book soon after it came out. Interesting and inspiring at the time, but this book has the benefit of years of research. Whenever I had a lucid dream, all I could think of to do was fly. Sometimes a wonderful experience, but lately I was even having trouble with no-effort flying. Happily, I ran across Waggoner's book, which readily explained my struggle (bringing physical concepts into the dream) and made me aware of some exciting pursuits other than the usual flying. Inspired, I moved on to this book to keep my focus. It isn't as fun and easy to read, but it's packed full of worthwhile information, especially tips for having more lucid dreaming experiences, even at will. Slower reading, I got a bit bogged down with some of the exercises and suggestions, and am only a third through the book, savoring it. So much there, best to try only what especially appeals to you. Had my first fully lucid dream in quite a while a couple weeks into it & tried out interviewing dream characters. Opens worlds.
• While I was reading this book my dreams began to become longer, more vivid, and more frequent. I would write them down upon waking up, but eventually my dreams became so detailed and lengthy that I would spend up to an hour journaling them. While I enjoyed dreaming every night, I stopped recording them as much because it honestly became too time consuming! Now I only write down a dream if it feels particularly significant. However, writing my dreams played a HUGE part of my recall and I could feel my dream “abilities” expanding immensely. It takes some persistence to maintain. I used techniques in the book that really did help me transition a normal dream into a lucid dream. If you are at all interested in lucid dreaming or just dream recall/control in general, I would highly recommend this book! I skipped over parts I didn’t feel reaignate with me (such as dealing with bad dreams and using lucid dreams to problem solve, etc.) I wasn’t especially interested in people’s personal write-in experiences as well.

• I read this years ago after having lucid dreams naturally. I didn't know that the dreams could be induced. Until I had read this book, I thought that such phenomena were random. This book worked so well for me that I have been buying it over and over again for friends. It's not a new age book. Lucid Dreaming is actually a distinct phase of dreaming which has been verified. Read the works of Allen Hobson and you will get to know a bit more about what happens when you sleep.
  Even though I continually read more books on the subject, this first book worked so well that I choose this one when buying as a gift.
• The book is too long and has so many techniques and explanations that makes it confusing. Perhaps the author was trying to create an all-encompassing source of information on lucid dreaming, but in the end I wish it was more simple and straight to the point. After reading it I still didnt know where to start and which techniques to use (the author recommends to try all the techniques) and so felt I should read it again to review everything. Not the best feeling to have after reading a book IMO.
• This book has a strong grasp of the subconscious.
  
  It tells many misconceptions about dreams. Shows that although dreams can have deep meaning and lead to enhanced understanding, they don't always have to. Some dreams are a means of maintaining your mental architecture. Some dreams are fantasies. Some do have deep meaning. Some are how the mind heals itself.
  
  It explains many mental triggers. Shows how imagery affects perception. How to deliberately build dreams and how those affect the waking state. This book can help readers gain a stronger connection to their dreams, and learn to treasure their dreams.

I would also liked to have learned more about the equipment, food, techniques and such. Except for tortillas and peanut butter for lunch , and assault the Sierra passes early AM, there is little insight here as to how they did it. But it is a great story about a married couple sharing a fabulous experience ... and that's what great relationships are all about."

• If you liked Cheryl Strayed's book "Wild" you'll love this story! Almost makes me want to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. I visited many of the places in the book on our RV road trip so reading how this couple became totally immersed in the wilderness makes me respect how difficult but inspiring their adventure must have been. Loved it!
• I really enjoyed this story, and not just because I know the protagonists personally. As a fellow outdoor enthusiast, I've spent many days hiking portions of the Pacific Crest Trail, some of them in the company of Mike and Margo (though not on this occasion). The book resonated strongly with me because it captures the essence of their journey without getting overwhelmed by the endless details accompanying such an undertaking. I also like that it's not just a diary/journal rehashing, as many other PCT accounts turn out. Mike does a great job letting the dialog and descriptions flow to poignant insights about the challenges faced and rewards gained, by himself individually as well as alongside his better half. It was a joy to rediscover my friends through this short book that is "deep" enough to make us all yearn for a taste of life on the trail - away from the madding crowds.

• This is an extremely readable book. The narrative flows smoothly and effortlessly and you just want to keep reading to see how things turn out. In some sections there was an obstacle that wasn't resolved for the reader but that didn't hamper the enjoyment of the book. It's nice to vicariously live through the adventures of others. This was a trip well worth taking...for participants and reader alike.
• This book is a far cry from other trail books on couples like "Mile 445" or "A Long Way From No Where" but it a nice, short read. You won't find much in the way of romance or drama between the couple. In fact, much of their personal life is left out of the book. I think the biggest thing that happened in the entire hike is the author having to get an infected boil on his back dealt with. I'm not sure the story is worthy of a book but it's still a good insight into what you can expect on the PCT.
• I enjoyed this ALOT - interesting along the way regarding landscape, climate, etc. - meeting others along the way - how they
  received mail, food - found new friends. Always in good spirits - never complaining. Considering
  their age, I was very impressed with their fortitude. Some printing errors in book, but guess he
  published it himself - and it didn't really matter.
• I have read several books on the PCT Trail and also many on the Appalachian Trail. This one was the least exciting and really did not give one a feel for exactly how a typical day unfolded on such a hike. It sort of glossed over everything and made it sound quite easy, whereas I know it is not.
• This is not the kind of book I would usually read. It's not necessarily a subject matter that I seek out, but I found it very enjoyable and easy to read. I had planned on using it as light reading in my down time but found myself not wanting to put it down and making down time so I could finish it. A fun adventure that makes me want to abandon real life and feel the peace that was described very well. So glad I read this.

• I normally like to read the books from this writer. However, I couldn't get into this book. My issue is the same as another readers. The female agrees to obey the horse king then promptly starts disobeying and fighting him. For me it would have been better if he had kidnapped her or if she had never agrees to obey.
• Don't get me wrong. I'm liking this book. But 85% of it, is very reminiscent of K. Ashley's The Golden Dynasty. Even down to the character of "Colors" used etc.. to describe/or represent certain things. The language, the culture, the people, the events that occur here as well; have the Golden Dynasty stamp on it. if just a little bit more tame in certain circumstances.
  
  This story doesn't have the feel of an Alien sci-fi story to me at all. If you liked GD you will like this as well, but also feel as if you read it before....
  
  With that being said, I loved how many things played out here. I absolutely love our H/h, and the simple yet complicated dance they did with learning one another. It's still a beautiful story. And the way this one introduces another Horde King, I am intrigued with what book 2 will have to offer.
  
  I would recommend this read.
• I have read other books written by ZOEY DRAVEN. . This MIGHT be my NEW FAV. I see this story being more about the love of family, community and the lengths you would go to in order to protect the ones you love. You have LUNA who truly loved her mother and her younger brother. She sacrificed her hopes and dreams in order to save her brother. Yet by unselfishly giving up her life, LUNA truly finds her REAL LIFE.
  
  LUNA'S stubborn and persistent ways proves to be her strength and it is what makes her stand out in the eyes of the WARRIOR HORDE KING. I love the wisdom of this FIERCE, INTENSE & FORCEFUL (scary/sexy) WARRIOR.
  
  ZOEY builds this strange planet, DAKKAR where of course humans are again lowest on the food chain, destroying the planet and believing folklore about other beings. Sometimes what you think you KNOW, isn't the REAL story. I like the way the author uncovers little gems in the story in order to show the OTHER side.
  
  Maybe similar stories have been told, BUT I LOVED THIS STORY . . . IT WAS REALLY GOOD !!!
• I enjoyed seeing the main female character, Luna (a human), learn how to live in a different culture with the original people of the planet, the Dakkari.
  
  The romance was believable and the sex scenes were hot.

• I bought this book for a class and so far the information is just fine, however, I rated it as 3 stars because of all the typos! I wouldn't expect a $65 text book to have SO many! I have found misspellings, grammar issues, missing referenced figures, unreadable (fuzzy) figures, missing titles, etc. I'm not sure if this was rushed to print but that's what it seems like.
  I have the paperback version so maybe the electronic (or hard-back if there is one) wouldn't have the same issue with viewing the figures.
• 3 stars because it supplied the information I needed for my course.
  However, whoever edited this book should consider a career change.
  Low resolution figures/charts, misspellings, horrible formatting.
  
  Publisher and editor should be ashamed.
• The book is very well organized with current information. The content makes the book useful as either a textbook or a reference book. It is well written which makes it not only easy to read but interesting to read. For visual learners, the book has simple illustrations which convey a great image for explaining information.
• My expectation of the book before I read it was not as like what I have found. Over all, it's a good book. I expected it to have more detail technical applications and practical skills on how to operate on certain application softwares. It is almost reading and case study posts. The likes of data analysis techniques, procedures or steps should be there. So, it appears that, "Never judge a book by its cover" is true in this case. I am not saying, it's bad, but my expectation was different, now I should go back to "youtube" to find out some steps, procedures, and techniques on how to run reports, run queries, and analyze data. But, thanks for coming up with this update though.
• I like the book. I think it is good enough with details provided.
• HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Electronic Copy, no page numbers, no way to navigate. In my class I have assigned pages to read and I have NO IDEA what pages those are. Extremely disappointed. Do not purchase electronic copy!
• at it again. It beats my school bookstore every time!

• I have been a big Greg Iles fan from the beginning of his career but unfortunately this will be my last book of his I purchase. Like many of my favorite authors the practice of adding politics to their stories is a giant turn off for me so I will simply return this book and get my money back. I work way tooo hard for what little money I make to spend it supporting the liberal agenda. Sorry Greg and toodaloo to you!!
• Have been a huge fan for a long time. Pre-ordered this book. Very disappointed in the political commentary/positioning. Big turn off and very typical lately of writers that think their readers want this in their novels. Tired of the elite journalist character that is so much more evolved, smarter, and worthy than the rest of us. Lots of stereotyping here. Skip the book and read one of his old books. I may try him again with a new book, but will wait until it goes on sale or at the library. Just another successful rich writer/artist that appears to let their politics be part of their product/art. No different than so many singers and actors. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
• I wish these authors understood they alainiate half their readers when they bring in obvious biases into the writings. We as readers try to get away from this when we read and it literally ruined this book. Will be sending back. I get enough of this from the media and hollywood. now its in our books. Guess its ok to drop the N word throughout the book though wheil you bash the president. Good Luck in your future writings as you have lost this reader.
• Huge fan of Iles; perhaps one of my top three fav authors; and I read a LOT (2-3 books per week).
  Have read his books over and over many times in the past (just LOVE Black Cross and all the Penn Cage books).
  
  BUT, with this latest one "Cemetery Road", it had to get political and started bashing our President. I understand these are the character's thoughts, but Iles words it in such a way that it's so negative, not just from the first-person character view, but also from his own (Iles') view.
  
  I'm saddened when a novel no longer tells me a great story, but instead becomes a political narrative.
  
  Sorry, but this one will remain unfinished. You let me down Mr Iles. What a disappointment.
  
  Perhaps I'll just re-live the good 'ol days and re-read "Sleep No More" )
• I really wanted to love this book, because it's by Greg Iles, I thought it would be another winner. It really misses the mark. And it doesn't have anything to do with Trump!! (For Pete's sake!!) I got so tired of conversation after conversation where this one has the upper hand, no, now THAT one has the upper hand, wrong again, now this one has the upper hand again... The whole book is like that. And Jet is so unlikable, I wanted to ask Marshall, what it WRONG with you??? That pair was so boring, all these conversations that were just speculation about what MIGHT happen if THIS was discovered, or THAT person found out something. I was so glad when the book was over. I wasn't going to pay money for something and then not finish it. But this won't stop me from being a Greg Iles fan, he has too many other great books for this to keep me from reading whatever he comes up with next. But I might wait until the next new one gets donated to the library and I'll borrow it from there, just in case. I'm donating Cemetery Road to our library next week.
• Greg Iles is one of my favorites. All of his books are page turners, and if you decide to undertake reading an Iles novel, plan on getting nothing done until you are done reading. After the last Penn Cage trilogy, I wondered how this author could ever top such an awe aspiring saga and he for sure delivered.
  It is frustrating that others found the plot overshadowed by politics. The mention of Trump and the current political climate is so incremental compared to the nail-biting, non-stop tension and drama. If you could let such a small matter deter from such an enjoyable read, well, the only term that comes to mind is...snowflake.
• Lost me on page 69 when he just had to include Trump derangement. 63+ million people voted for President Trump, figures that some of them might spend hard earned money on your book to enjoy the mystery not your political “opinion”.
• When Nascar drivers are interviewed after a race and take a big drink of Coca-Cola on camera, they receive $10,000. Most donate it to their charity, but still it's distracting. The same is true in Greg Illes new book. My favorite author must have received a new Ford Flex, or a few dollars per mention. I'm almost halfway through Cemetery Road and not sure I can finish. He sometimes refers to his Flex 2 or 3 times on one page. "He turned and walked to his Flex" "He placed his briefcase on the back seat of his Flex." Okay..I get it. You have a Ford vehicle.
