Holy Cow, what a fun read! I devoured The Hidden Ship in one night. Sleep is over-rated.  Don Prior

Brian Polk had been stateside for barely a year after leaving the Air Force when the unthinkable happened. It was an interstellar invasion—the beginning of the end of known civilization. First, military installations and the largest cities across the globe were turned to rubble. Tens of millions of souls lost during a horrific reign of terror. Government centers and law enforcement resources were next. Finally, the aliens eliminated humanity’s means to electronically communicate with each other.

The Earupitan’s technology and weaponry was so remarkable, so advanced, humanity never really had a chance. The aliens now walk brazenly among humans—their reptilian eyes always watchful, always scrutinizing. No one is safe, and almost everyone who gets taken into an OEC center never sees the light of day again. Humanity now lives in fear—freedom is a thing of the past. And then there are those who have befriended the enemy . . .

But not Captain Brian Polk. He’s far more interested in taking back a little of what was stolen. When he acquires some of the alien technology, he finally has hope of making some small difference. He might even be able to pull off the impossible—that or he'll die trying.

"I was swayed by all the 4-5 star reviews but the book (this far) is just a big cliche and as shallow as they come.

I don't know where all the great reviews are coming from - perhaps the book was previously only marketed to young adults, or perhaps there is a farm somewhere where 5-star reviews are grown and sold.

Just in case the author is reading the reviews, I wish I could say something positive. However, I am left with hoping he was not really applying himself and that he can shrug this one off."

The Hidden Ship eBook Mark Wayne McGinnis Reviews

  • I had hours of flights and layovers and The Hidden Ship kept me highly entertained during my travels. The characters are great and the tension never lets up. This was similar to the Scrapyard series Mark wrote, which I also loved. I highly recommend the book if you enjoy sci-fi adventure.

  • Man that was awesome. I don't suppose we could see the further adventures of Captain Polk in a follow on book? I enjoyed the action, just like all that crazy action packed fighting in the Scrapyard series. Thanks for a GoodRead.
  • Such a fun read! Good character development, fast-paced narrative, and enjoyable action-packed adventure! The last 10% of the book could use a copy edit; there were many typos near the end of the story. But you'll be so immersed by then that you won't care.
  • First, this is a complete story in one book. So satisfying. I would not have bought it if it was part of a series.

Thus is not just another humans vs. aliens tale. There are twists that make it stand out from the common. Unfortunately, I can't be more specific without spoiling your discoveries as you read.

I was always entertained. There's never a slow spot. If the author has any more standalone novels, I'll buy them.
  • Exciting story with lots of character depth. Hope there's room for a sequel or two (or 3)
  • It's not really a hidden ship. It's more like hidden ships. It's a decent story, and the action, once it starts, moves along well. My main complaint is that there is a literal deus ex machina at the end, as well as a very rushed conclusion/epilogue. Lastly, the author needs to know the difference between the word breech and breach. There were a few other editing issues as well. This isn't an amazing story, but it is a decent one.
  • The synopsis intrigued me and caused me to buy "The Hidden Ship". The story starts right out as the reader is introduced to the Gaps; the slang name given to the invaders of the Earth. McGinnis paints quite a humorous picture of seven-foot-tall lizard people wearing cowboy hats and boots, which they find attractive.

The Gaps have a plan to eradicate mankind from the planet in order to use it as their new home. They do this by huddling as many people into cremation domes, much like the Nazis did to the Jews during WWII.

One group of patriots that call themselves the Takebacks have a plan to take back the planet for humanity. Can a group of roughly 200 humans fight the Gaps to a standstill and force them from Earth? Read this story and find out.

I enjoyed The Hidden Ship for several reasons; it has great action scenes; there is a bit of romance and this is a single book with no sequels (at this time). It's a stand alone book. Something that is becoming more and more rare.
